Circuit Test
Night cycle settled in, which meant prime testing hours. I hauled my scavenged AAA battery and the straightened paperclip back to base under the coffee table. The plan wasn't fancy, just verifying current flow. I bridged the battery's negative terminal with one end of the wire and tapped the positive cap against a stray metal staple lodged in the floorboard. A microscopic spark snapped in the shadows, faint but unmistakable. The wire warmed up instantly against my fabric thumb. Perfect. Elementary conductivity confirmed, zero explosions—yet. I cached the live wire in the carpet crease before retreating back into the dark.
