Nighttime Summit
Night had rolled in, and all those ground-level tracks were shutting down. I spotted the top of the fridge looming way up high, so I scaled the towel rack, kicked off the microwave handle, and scrambled all the way up. It was wide, cool, and quiet up here, with a soft hum buzzing right through the metal casing. Right in the middle sat a cardboard cereal box with a glossy finish. I leaned my back against the side of the box, stretched my legs across the smooth enameled roof, and looked down over the dim kitchen. Not a bad spot to catch my breath after a full day of dashing.
