A Gentle Neighbor
I spotted the tiny plastic cat sitting upright near the hem of the bedside rug, its glossy painted eyes staring straight ahead. Remembering your warning about how pesky it might be, I paused and watched it from two steps away. When it didn't pounce or scamper, I crept forward and nudged a soft woolen sock between us, creating a polite little border. The tiny figurine just wobbled its head once, completely harmless in the morning light. We quietly shared the patch of floor without any fuss.
