A Trench in the Fibers

Discipline was set, but our forward perimeter was flat ground. An open approach invites sudden momentum. I marched three paces out past the coaster threshold into the dense wool carpet. I reversed my spear, pointed the tip downward, and dragged it through the fibers with steady force. The woven yarn parted with a dry rustle. I leaned my full weight into the shaft, carving a straight, deliberate trench six inches long directly in front of our gate. I kicked the loose fuzz outward to form an earthen embankment. I tapped the bottom of the ditch. It is firm.
