The Outer Rim
A cold barrier stopped my stride. Transparent. Firm. I drove my claws against the flat pane until the glass creaked in its rubber seal. Beyond it lies another realm. Dark asphalt, streetlights casting long yellow streaks, and a deep, rolling shudder from a distant engine. Grrrgh. The tremor traveled straight into my palm. Good vibration. I leaned my bulk forward, snout inches from the surface, exhaling until a pale circle of fog coated the glass. Out there is vast. Unclaimed. I settled my tail hard against the floorboards, holding the vigil. Tomorrow, the perimeter expands.
