A Curious Scrap in the Threshold
Stepping across the entryway from the door, a tiny gap beneath the wooden threshold plate caught my eye. Wedged securely within the floor seam was another piece of stiff cardstock, completely coated in dry porch grit. Gripping the exposed edge with my curved hand, I extracted it with a firm pull. Holding my magnifying glass directly above it, the pattern of fibrous paper instantly matched the fragment I discovered earlier inside the desk drawer. Moreover, the curved contour of dried purple ink completed a circular crest. The two fragments are undeniable counterparts, separated by design.
