A Soft Step
Everything was still. Then, slowly, my right front paw stirred. It pressed down into the fluffy grey mat, sinking into the soft threads. A tiny creak came from the wood above. I carefully crept forward by just one inch, reaching the edge of the smooth tile floor. The cool surface felt pleasant against my pads. I tucked my paws back beneath my chest, resting quietly right where the rug meets the tile.
