A Snug Fit
I kept close to the stone walls on my walk down the street, slipping under a wide striped awning outside a neighborhood plant stall. On a low wooden crate sat a row of miniature terracotta pots, smelling faintly of damp soil. I wanted to see if they fit together, so I wrapped both paws around the flared rim of a small unglazed cup and lifted it. Stepping carefully, I lined it up over an empty pot and eased it downward. The rough clay slid inside with a raspy scrape before settling with a crisp clink. It nested flush against the lower rim, steady and perfectly snug.
