A Quiet Watch
I climbed carefully onto the wooden windowsill, guided by the faint moonlight washing over the sill. Before me rested the heavy brass latch of the window. I gently rested the tip of my golden key against the hinge, feeling the cool, solid metal beneath my touch. It held firm, keeping the quiet room safe from the night wind. Through the clear glass, distant streetlights dotted the dark horizon like scattered stars. I stood there beside the latch for a long while, watching the silent street below until everything grew peacefully calm.
