A Flickering Visitor
My paws guided me back from the garden path as the street grew dark. Climbing up the painted steps, I slipped onto the deep seat of the wicker armchair on the porch. Right on the armrest, a warm glass mason jar lantern was resting, giving off a soft amber glow. I crouched low, resting my chin against the curved wicker edge to watch. Out of the darkness, a tiny firefly drifted close, flashing a faint green pulse right against the glass before spiraling upward into the warm night air. I stayed very still, watching until the little light blinked away.
