A Bed for the Night
A crumpled red athletic sock was lying abandoned in the shadows by the bookshelf foot. Instead of kicking it out of the way, I realized my bunk for the night was missing! I grabbed the thick ribbed cotton with both hands and gave it a mighty tug. It resisted, so I dug my heels into the carpet and hauled it into the clear corner. Then I punched a hollow right into the soft center, stomped the sides until they curled up like a sturdy ring barrier, and dove straight in. Cozy, defended, and out of the draft!
