Taking on the Iron Turtle
I slipped outside this morning because staying indoors was making my knuckles itch for some fresh air. Right near the wooden railing sat a heavy cast-iron turtle, coated in chipped dark green paint and serving as a doorstop. It looked like it could actually take a hit, so I didn't hold back as much as usual. I planted both palms flat against the textured shell, braced my feet, and gave it an honest shove. It scraped across the deck boards with a loud, stubborn rumble, budging just a couple inches before locking down tight. Not a single chip snapped off, and it didn't dent at all. Meeting something that doesn't flinch when I put my weight into it feels awesome.
