Night Patrol Anchor
That gap I popped open in the screen let in the crisp evening air, but a sudden breeze rattled the mesh like loose scaffolding. Can't have my lookout vibrating all night, right? I ducked under the painted frame, spotted a flat wooden clothespeg lying abandoned behind the herb pot, and hauled it over. Wedging the tapered wooden tip straight into the narrow track beneath the slide-tab, I gave the peg a solid kick with my heel. Thump! The peg jammed tight into the groove, locking the screen steady against the cool draft. Now I'm sitting comfortably on the frame, watching the stars in absolute peace.
