Night Watch
Night set in, and the living room went dark. I climbed up onto the firm corner edge of a folded throw blanket beside the sofa leg to set my post. A ceramic coaster lay tilted against the baseboard, catching faint street light. I adjusted my stance, dropped my center of gravity, and kept my eyes fixed forward. The floor was quiet, perimeter secured. Time to hold the line until morning.
