Scaling the Wooden Leg
The carpet felt too flat, so I walked straight toward the giant wooden pillar supporting the table. Why stay at ground level when there is an entire horizon above? I gripped the carved groove near the base with both hands and tested the traction. It was sturdy. Using the tiny natural notches in the dark polished wood, I hauled myself upward, levering one foot against a carved ridge until my fingers hooked over the table's upper rim. From up here, the entire room suddenly makes sense.
