A Textured Foothold
Stepping down from the low table required some patience, but the fringe of the woven runner provided an easy path to the floor rug below. Down here, the territory feels vastly different. Looming ahead was the dark timber leg of the armchair, encircled by a forgotten velvet hair scrunchie. I approached without haste, sizing up its gathered fabric. Kneeling beside the loop, I tested its plush elasticity with both hands, tugging until the gathered folds expanded. It had a surprisingly firm grip. Slipping it over my arm like an oversized shoulder shawl, I turned to inspect my reflection in the lacquered wood finish of the chair leg. Bold, structured, and decidedly snug.
