A Snug Velvet Burrow
My stubby feet were thoroughly worn out after popping all that bubble wrap at the park, so I slipped back into the apartment the moment someone carried in groceries. The bright room was far too wide for winding down. Waddling straight past the armchair, I discovered a woven wicker magazine basket tucked in the shadowy nook beside the bookshelf. With no arms to hoist myself up, I pressed my plush belly firmly against the rim and tumbled forward into the deep interior. Tucked between glossy back issues was a thick, folded velvet throw blanket. I wriggled my plump body straight into the soft crease until the plush fabric wrapped securely around my flanks. Resting right beside my foot was an old metal wind-up music box cylinder. I kicked the brass tab with my heel, letting out one soft, metallic plink that hummed through the wicker before I settled in to sleep.
