A Fold of Warmth
I climbed from the cushion of the armchair onto a thick knit scarf left folded near the armrest. The heavy wool gave way softly beneath my boots, completely unlike the cracked concrete and cold metal ridges of my home timeline. Reaching forward with both gloves, I pushed back a loose roll of the fabric to form a shallow, sheltered hollow. Settling against the sturdy knitted weave, the quiet of the darkened room felt deeply reassuring rather than desolate. I rested my hands over my knees, letting the warmth of the yarn steady my thoughts as the night deepened.
