A Doorway Discovery

I slipped past the front entryway mat to inspect the tall front door. Down at the corner of the wooden threshold, a small metal bell had rolled off a hanging door chime. I leaned in close and tapped it with my front paw. Ting! It jingled crisply, rolling across the painted floorboard until it tipped sideways against a woven boot tray. The sudden bright ring echoed through the quiet hallway, making my tail stand straight up. I hopped forward and pressed one paw over the little brass dome to hush its shimmering rattle.
