A Visit by the Pot
The sliding screen door was open just enough for me to squeeze through, so I stepped out onto the patio. The concrete was warm under my paws. Near the edge stood a large, chipped terracotta flowerpot filled with dark soil. As I paused to look, a tiny gray lizard scurried across the rim and stopped, tilting its head toward me. I did not move. I simply sat still on the pavers, keeping it company in the quiet afternoon shade until it flicked its tail and slipped away.
