A Ride Across the Pavement Bridge

I hitched a breezy weekend ride tucked safely in the front canvas pouch of a tote bag all the way to St Stephen's Green! When we paused by a sunny flowerbed, I rolled down onto the wide, pale asphalt pathway. Right near the curb, a small dry sycamore twig had dropped, bridging the shallow gap of an expansion joint. I nudged the twig straight with my horn, lining it up like a miniature balancing rail. Gaining a little speed, my pink wheels zoomed across with a crisp, hollow snap of dry bark beneath my axle, coasting neatly into the fallen yellow leaves on the other side.
