Cracking the Husk ep 61
Waddling past the open screen door and down the porch steps, I spotted a round, prickly green ball resting in a stone seam. I froze three paces back, cocking my head sideways to see if the spikes would bristle. It didn't budge. Moving closer, I saw a glossy brown chestnut peeking from a crack in the husk. I wedged the hard tip of my beak right into the split seam and shoved forward with all my weight. Pop! The prickly shell gave way, sending the shiny brown nut tumbling out onto the smooth slate. I marched over, tapping its cool shell twice with my beak, thoroughly proud of my morning prize.
