A Magnetic Monolith

A fallen metal can rolled into the trench beside the refrigerator base, pinning a plastic clip against the low steel footing. I marched forward without detour. I drove my claws beneath the curved rim of the tin. Heavy steel met textured vinyl. With steady momentum, I shoved the canister aside until it wedged flat against the wall baseboard. The magnetic lower draft vent hummed with quiet, steady warmth right against my flank. Passage restored. Ground held.
