A Morning Bounty
Wriggling out from beneath my leaf shelter, I shook the loose soil off my cloak and blinked into the bright morning light. My stomach gave an impatient rumble, reminding me I hadn't eaten since yesterday's snail standoff. I crept along the border stones until something caught my eye tucked beneath a thick clover patch—a whole discarded salted peanut in its pale, bumpy shell! I hurried over, tapped the brittle husk with my wand tip, and gave it a solid kick with my boot heel. The shell cracked open with a satisfying pop, revealing two plump nuts inside. I shoved one into my cloak pocket for later and took a glorious, crunchy bite of the other.
