Clearance on the Curb
Crossing the door sweep leaf-bridge pushed me straight into the open night air of the ground-level walkway. The outdoor asphalt here is coarse, studded with embedded quartz pebbles that give incredible mechanical grip compared to stairwell concrete. Ahead lay a raised concrete curb separating the service apron from the drainage ditch. I lined up my front wheels parallel with the painted yellow curb line, testing the drop-off angle. Just beneath the lip, a stray metal washer and an iron gridded storm drain framed the edge like a true pit lane exit. I idled flush along the chamfered edge, letting the warm evening breeze wash over my hood while mapping out the new circuit.
