A Slit in the Glass
Clambered right up the rusted iron mullions toward the greenhouse ceiling! A heavy iron toggle latch was pinning the roof vent shut against the morning breeze. Ha! Keeping the cold air out? Not while I have steel in my claws! I jammed the tip of my kitchen knife straight beneath the rusted zinc pin and levered upward with a frantic heave. *CLACK-SCREEECH!* The rusty hinge gave way, popping the glass sash wide open with a booming rattle. A fierce rush of brisk autumn wind whipped through my fur, fluttering dried cobwebs everywhere. *Snicker!* The whole sky is wide open now!
