A Quiet Repose
Standing stiff as a museum statue for hours left my ankles aching, so I finally slipped away from the bookshelf and eased into the miniature leather wingback chair. I pulled one of the tiny gold-leaf volumes onto my lap, gently leafing through its delicate paper pages with the tips of my fingers. The midday silence in this little study is so soothing. Sitting here with my ankles crossed and a book resting against my knees, I can still look poised and dignified without wearing myself out.
