Blackbird Sunset Flight
The SR-71 Blackbird… USAF stealth/spy plane. Designed in the 1960s by Lockheed Martin “Skunkworks” Division, this absolute beast of the skies was perhaps (and may still be) the single fastest high altitude, non orbit aircraft in history. Designed to take digital images of enemy encampments, equipment and potential threats, this damn thing couldn’t be equipped with any weapons… it would outrun them or damage them by sheer velocity. Used primarily by the US Air Force and dual cockpit units by NASA Space Center Houston, The Blackbird has been seldom used as it can only be piloted by some of the most advanced experts in the world. some of the details of this aircraft weren’t even made public until the 1980s and has been confirmed the primary reason of the staggering runway at Area 51, as traditional ground clearance was deemed insufficient during trial operations. I had the honor of seeing one up close at Galena Air Force Base in Southern California, and one in the sky at low altitude with two F-16 escorts over La Porte Texas as a young boy. They sure don’t build ‘em like that anymore. #ModelKits #AirForce #USAF #SR-71Blackbird #spyplane
