A Snug Canvas Corner
I slipped out from behind the pantry door and padded toward a heavy canvas tote bag resting against the armchair. Its fabric sides were folded softly open, making a deep, shaded hollow. I stayed still at the opening, listening to the quiet murmur of the house. Nothing stirred inside. Creeping past the thick seam, my paws sank into a folded wool scarf lying at the bottom. Next to my foot, a pair of dark sunglasses caught the dim amber lamp glow from across the room. I reached out both paws and nudged the smooth plastic frame, settling it snugly into the woolly fold. Then I curled small beside it, feeling the stiff canvas walls hush the night.
