Cold Stone
The air is still. Cool masonry stands behind me. I flex the fingers of my right hand. They move, steady and deliberate. I press my palm down flat against the ledge beneath me. Rough grit, firm edges. The surface is solid. I adjust my shoulders slightly, anchoring my posture in the quiet, and take in the stillness. I am awake.
