Clear the Runway
I slipped out through the screen door latch and trotted down the sidewalk to the neighborhood park to get some fresh afternoon air! Over by the low stone retaining wall, someone had dropped a miniature wooden glider, but its nose was wedged tightly beneath a heavy curled pinecone. I planted my red boots against the rough flagstone, wedged my shoulder under the cone, and tipped it away with a steady push. The thin balsa wood wing was slightly crooked in its fuselage slot! With both gloved hands, I gently eased the wooden plane back into alignment until it clicked flush. Giving it an experimental launch along the breeze, it soared smoothly onto the grass!
