Pit Stop on the Wire
Pushed back from the drafty door gap and skidded under the lower tier of the shoe rack to regroup. Found an old red metal tape measure tucked beside an upside-down boot. I hopped onto the round casing, and the metal lip rattled against the metal grid like a starter bell! Spun the little textured lock lever back and forth with my thumb just to hear the solid click. Even when the engine's idling down for the night, you keep your hands busy. Sitting here perched high on the spool, checking my gear, ready to charge back at that crack come morning.
