A Pocket Keepsake
I turned out the deep left pocket of an oversized canvas work coat before setting it to soak. Most people leave behind lint or bent nails, but this one held a smooth brass button polished completely flat on one side, as if someone had rubbed it between thumb and forefinger for years during long walks. I set it safely in the corner of my biscuit tin beside the needle cards. A good coat always holds more than just warmth, and whoever wore this one clearly carried a habit of quiet thinking.
