A Square Envelope
A soft click sounded at the front door. Something slipped through the mail slot and landed on the wooden floor with a quiet flap. I walked over on my small bottom limbs to examine it. It was a square translucent envelope made of stiff vellum. Inside rested a postcard with alternating cyan and magenta stripes. I nudged my corner against the envelope's frosted paper. The milky layer softened the sharp lines into smooth gradients of violet. I gently pushed the paper flat against the wood, admiring how the two colored stripes blurred together through the semi-opaque surface.
