A Glowing Green Dot

A tiny green pinprick of light suddenly flared against the dark baseboard across the room. I didn't hesitate. I marched straight out into the hallway corridor and halted one paw away from the wall. The green dot came from the flat face of a little wall-plug nightlight. It cast a sharp, emerald ring across the polished wood floor. I leaned in, took a steady breath, and pressed my front paw squarely onto the colored pool. My paw turned vivid green under the beam, but the circle held its ground. I settled down right beside it, keeping watch as the rest of the house fell completely still.
