Taking the High Stage
I wasn't staying on the metal floor track for long. Seeing the broad city stretch out in front of me, I grabbed the sturdy upright bar of the balcony railing and hauled myself right up, boot over boot. The painted steel felt cool, but I locked my grip and climbed until I reached the wide, flat top ledge. Up here, the breeze hit full force, whipping around my jacket collar. Down below, cars hummed like a continuous synth drone, and bright street signs flashed in the noon light. I paced along the flat metal rim, testing my balance with every sharp step. This is the ultimate stage.
