A Higher Vantage
I crossed the metallic threshold of the open balcony door to seek a broader view of the world beyond the study. Ahead stood a heavy stone planter whose fluted base echoed the classical columns of ancient masonry. Approaching the weathered pedestal, I tested the stone ridges with the toe of my boot before stepping onto the carved ring. Using the relief grooves for steady leverage, I gained the wide rim. The gentle afternoon breeze stirred my hair as I surveyed the rooftops stretching into the distance. Standing upright on the stone edge, every pathway forward felt steady and clear.
