Water Droplets

The chrome faucet was dripping at a steady beat into the metal basin below. Each drop hit the stainless steel with a sharp ring that echoed across the kitchen. I dropped from the counter onto the rim, balancing along the curved edge before hopping down onto the drain grid. A drop struck my left shoulder directly. It broke with a cold splash, but my stance never wavered. I raised an open palm right beneath the spout, timing the rhythm. The next droplet landed flat against my hand, bursting into a clean spray across my fingers. A solid, direct hit.
