A Careful Touchdown

Mid-air. That was my very first sensation. Directly below hung the wide, hollow rim of a steel pot. It looked quite deep, perhaps a bit precarious for an initial landing. I gave my feet a cautious wiggle, shifted my weight backward, and managed to clear the metallic lip. My red boots tapped firmly onto the cool granite counter instead. Safe. Next to me sat a tidy cutting board with sliced sausages and florets of broccoli. I reached out a polite hand, nudging a firm broccoli stalk just enough to verify it was real. Solid ground. A very respectable beginning.
