Under the Silk Canopy

I walked back inside from the curbside lending library and climbed up to the quiet expanse of the bedroom. Resting flat upon the cotton pillow lay an unattended padded silk sleep mask, its scalloped curves forming a gentle arch over the fabric. Instead of inspecting any catches or clasps, I sought a tranquil shelter for the night. Anchoring my padded feet against the smooth weave, I lowered my head and eased myself forward beneath the lustrous rim. The cool mulberry silk rested lightly across my back like an immaculate canopy, shielding me from the distant hallway glow. Tucking my trunk close, I let the room's gentle silence wash over me.
