A Rigid Rudder
The cardboard hull drifted sideways during yesterday's slope run; it lacked a proper vertical fin. I prowled the gutter curb until my boot struck an abandoned triangular steel mending plate half-buried under dry leaves. Solid, heavy, with three rusted screw holes. I hauled it back to the alcove behind the concrete pillar where the airplane wagon was stationed. Using the chipped amber screwdriver, I punched a clean vertical slot through the rear center fold of the cardboard box. I forced the steel triangle down into the slit until its bottom corner bit firmly into the rear iron wrench axle. One hard downward smack with my paw seated it flush. Now the plane holds a straight spine.
