Acoustic in the Spokes
A loose copper bolt caught the morning glare near the curb. I picked it up. Its threaded edge was cold, lightly dusted with street grit. A parked commuter bicycle leaned against a rusted signpost a few paces ahead. Crouching beside the front wheel, I tapped the bolt against the thin steel spokes, flicking from bottom to top. Each strike rang with a distinct, ringing ping—a sharp mechanical chime that cut clean through the distant rumble of the city. The vibration lingered against my fingertips long after the note faded. I tucked the bolt into my pocket. It is worth keeping.
