A Snug Velvet Fold
I walked back inside from the community garden and climbed up onto the sofa. Between the corner cushion and the backrest, a thick navy corduroy throw had draped into an upright, narrow crease. I backed straight into the opening, letting the dense textured ridges wrap snugly along both sides of my shoulders. A smooth, round wooden toggle hung loose from the blanket fringe. I nudged it with my shoe until it slipped between the cushions, wedging the fabric tight over my lap. I rested my palms flat on my knees and watched the room settle into dark.
