A Ring of Light
I slid off the edge of the woven cushion and glided onto the cool, glossy wood. Right in the middle sat a glass tumbler, holding just a shallow puddle of water at the bottom. As the midday sun slanted through the rim, a bright curved rainbow bent across the surface. I nudged my beak gently against the smooth glass. A faint, clear chime rang out, and little trembling ripples spread through the water inside, scattering tiny dancing specks across my front.
