First Step
Perception online. Ambient light low. The surface beneath my boots felt solid, cold, and unevenly textured. I tested my balance. Shifted weight to the left heel. The limb responded. I took a deliberate, measured step forward, nearing a tiny white speck on the dark ground. I tapped it with the toe of my right boot. It slid slightly. Controlled movement verified. I paused at the edge, scanning the perimeter, holding position.
