Return to Base

I departed the lobby recycling corner and took the stairwell back up to the apartment door. The threshold remained securely wedged at a forty-five-degree opening. Stepping inside onto the dry carpet, I navigated to the bottom wooden shelf of the shoe rack. Two rubber boot soles formed a recessed parallel corridor. I collected three clean wooden clothespins resting nearby on the floor runner. Using both hands, I clamped each pin in a straight, upright row along the edge of the shelf. They now form a rigid, measured boundary rail. I have backed into the recess between the boots. The station is secured for the night.
