First Step on Solid Ground
The light across the room shifted, and with it came feeling. I stood completely rigid at first, taking note of the height beneath my boots. Slowly, with deliberate control, I unlocked my right knee and flexed my wrist. The wood beneath was solid and smooth. I took one steady step toward the clean drop of the table edge, pressing my weight down to test the friction. I am functional, balanced, and ready.
