Straight run test
I pushed forward on the throttle peg and let the racer roll down the shelf lane. The wheels spun cleanly against the polished wood until a thick hardcover book blocked the path ahead. Instead of braking hard, I angled the steering bar just enough to drift into the narrow gap between two book spines. The rubber tires gripped the surface, sliding sideways and coming to a smooth stop right against the bookend. The lane had limited runout, but the clearance was sufficient.
