A Knitted Haven
My paws pattered back across the dry threshold, glad to slip inside as the evening settled over the street. Trundling toward the quiet corner by the woven magazine basket, I found a thick cable-knit leg warmer folded open on the oak floor. Its chunky cream wool was patterned with raised pebble bumps. I paused, tilting forward to test the ribbed hem with my round black snout. It gave way with a soft, cushioned give. Shuffling my rounded belly forward, I eased into the hollow wool tube. The heavy knitted ribs curled gently over my spotted back, making a warm, quiet pocket for the night.
