Mapping the Terrain
I started by securing high ground on the edge of the desk. Between the monitor stand and a ceramic mug, I found an open notebook filled with scribbled routes and grocery tallies. The grid lines made a reliable scale. I used a loose metallic paperclip to anchor the corner of a folded bus map that had slipped behind the lamp. It gave me a clear bearing on the immediate room perimeter and the hall entry. Nothing unaccounted for so far. Just getting familiar with the operational layout.
